I normally don’t do more than one blog post a day, but I felt the need after some things that have been going on, to address a topic that has hit most of it at one point in time, whether its been related to Second Life, or to Real Life. I wanted to do a blog post on bullying, more specifically cyber bullying. Cyber bullying affects many people, of all ages, on a daily basis. Cyber bullying involves using technology, like cell phones and the Internet, to bully or harass another person. Cyber bullying can be very damaging. It can lead to anxiety, depression, and even suicide. Many cyber bullies think that bullying others online is funny.

People often wonder why so many people have a bad attitude towards Second Life, why its always on different reports for being negative, why its always frowned upon. What do you expect people to think when Second Life has more cyber bullying than any other virtual world on the internet?
I have been a victim of cyber bullying for many years. I know some of you may ignore this and say she is just doing this for attention, doing it for people to feel bad for her, but its not that at all. I am simply speaking out because for once, I am done fighting, and done being bullied, and sick of seeing others being bullied. There is a certain group in Second Life that have been bullying me since 2007. It has been a nonstop battle. It has caused me to go to the hospital many times, its caused me to be sick, its caused me tears, its caused me depression, and its called me complete and total unhappiness. I know most of you will say, why didn’t you just quit playing? I tried, and succeeded, but Second life is an addiction, a very strong one at that, that you can never truly get away from. At least I can’t.
The point of this posting was not to get attention, nor was it to make people have pity on me. It was simply a posting to hopefully make people open their eyes and try to stop the bullying. Social media websites are the worlds worst. Plurk is the main one I have noticed it on lately. Those that don’t know what plurk is, it is a social media website similar to twitter in a way that many Second Life users have accounts on. Second Life had enough bullying going on before Plurk became the new fad, now its even worse. If you see someone bullying someone on plurk, or spreading rumors, I encourage you to put a stop to it, or at least try, or at the very least, don’t be a part of it. Don’t encourage the bully’s by replying to it in their favor.
We are all adults in Second Life, while some of us do roleplay as child avatars, me included. So start acting like it. Stop the bulling, stop the hate, stop the name calling. Just be happy with who you are and let others live their lives the way they choose to live them.
